The Spanish basketball players have won the final for the European Championship group victory and are thus avoiding host Germany in the round of 16.
The World Champion, coached by Sergio Scariolo, defeated Turkey 72-69 (38-34) in Tbilisi, securing his fourth win in five games. With 15 points, Willy Hernangomez was the best shooter for the Spaniards. The first four round of 16 will take place in Berlin on Saturday. Spain will face Lithuania as fourth in Germany Group B, Turkey as second with third.
The Lithuanians won 87:70 (56:42) against Bosnia-Herzegovina in Cologne on Wednesday afternoon and still averted a preliminary round elimination after initially three defeats. Marius Grigonis contributed 16 points, NBA center Jonas Valanciunas was again a guarantee for success with 13 points and 15 rebounds. Thousands of Lithuanians dressed in green celebrated progress. For the Bosnians, the tournament came to an early end despite the victories over Hungary and European champions Slovenia.
