After the Casketball European Championship, before the Bundesliga season. The Skyliners Frankfurt start the new season optimistically. Also because the Hesse invested significantly more in the team.
Summer went well with the Skyliners Frankfurt. Better maybe than most would have believed to them. Under Klaus Perwas, the eternal assistant coach and new chief coach of the Hesse, the Bundesliga basketball players from the banking metropolis played a strong preparation.
Only one of six test games was lost (in the French Nancy), the Hesse separated against Heidelberg a few days ago. There are four victories opposite, at least two of them against direct league competitors.
In the end, only the results count
“We should have won the game against Heidelberg,” says coach Perwas shortly before the start of the season and warns that basketball was in the end. “We are competitive, but you will see in which direction this is possible.”
The first real location is determined on Wednesday (6.30 p.m.) in the BBL Cup. In the first round, the Skyliners meet the giant Ludwigsburg. “This is not a sure -fire success. They have to prove themselves and want to show where they stand,” said Perwas. Of course, the same applies to Frankfurt.
Duo is missing the skyliners in the cup
The Skyliners Frankfurt will have to do without the Center Jacob Knauf injured at the foot on Wednesday (6.30 p.m.) in the cup game against Ludwigsburg. Small Forward Marcus Domask also continues to fail with knee problems. It is also questionable to use new access Logan Johnson, who has just started training after groin complaints.
Skyliners with improved scouting
A lot has changed in the summer among the Skyliners, who barely missed relegation in the table last season. The team, of course, of course. This is rather the rule in basketball. But for example, also the approach in the squad composition.
With Sebastian Gleim, the managing director of Sport, the Hessen have an experienced sporting director new in the team. And he not only brought a lot of ideas, but also some staff. Among other things, two scouts in the United States, which support the Skyliners primarily in the obligations of import players.
Team has single -digit place in the table
“There is also a big difference that we also spent the player budget made available this year,” added Gunnar Wöbke, the managing partner of the association. He does not want to give a specific amount at the moment, but according to information from HR sports, the Frankfurters can cost their squad around 750,000 euros net-around 200,000 euros more than last summer.
After the good appearances in preparation, expectations in the area are correspondingly great. And not just there. “As a team, we first set ourselves a single -digit place in the table,” explains Captain Till Pape confident.
Trainer Perwas strikes a little quieter tones, wants to bag the relegation as soon as possible, but leaves the door open for its ambitious team. “If we have done this, we can see if we may have the chance for the post-season,” said the chief coach.
