For the first time since September 29, 2021, Ulm lost an away game in the BBL and slipped from second place in the table for the time being. Göttingen is eighth in the middle of the playoff race.
After a two-week break, Göttingen felt like they were in high spirits
The Göttingers had previously had to pause for more than two and a half weeks after two game cancellations and were also only able to train to a limited extent due to quarantine cases in their own team. However, the lack of rhythm was not noticed by the Lower Saxony. Led by the newly signed point guard Harald Frey, who made a brilliant debut with 21 points, the team from Göttingen turned up the heat from the second quarter and gained a 13-point lead by half-time.
In the third game in six days, Ulm also struggled with a lack of energy and only regained strength in the final quarter. 22 seconds before the end, Göttingen’s lead had melted down to just one point. But Ulms Sindarios Thornwell then made an unsportsmanlike foul, the Göttinger brought the narrow lead on the line over time.
Bayreuth wins against Heidelberg
Medi Bayreuth also kept the chances of moving into the playoffs alive. The Bayreuth team beat MLP Academics Heidelberg 85:79 in their own hall and, with 20:20 points, are only two points behind Göttingen in eighth place.
