Alba Berlin is still not wobbling in the basketball Bundesliga. The champions won on Saturday (02/11/2023) 89:81 against pursuers EWE Baskets Oldenburg and remain at the top of the table.
Alba is still with just one loss of the season in 18 games and thus maintains the lead after the 20th game day. Telekom Baskets Bonn, who have one more defeat to their credit, will play against the Rostock Seawolves on Sunday.
The Berliners, who had no chance against Euroleague leader Olympiakos during the week, dominated from the start with their usual strong offensive. Even without the regulars Maodo Lo and Luke Sikma, the champions gave the guests from Oldenburg 32 points in the first quarter.
Five Alba players score in double figures
Jaleen Smith was Berlin’s top scorer with 19 points, the playmaker hit four of his seven three-point attempts. Louis Olinde, Malte Delow, Johannes Thiemann and Yanni Wetzell also scored double digits at Alba.
The Oldenburgs held back well and gained three points in the final phase, led by playmaker Dewayne Russell, also the top scorer of the game with 30 points.
Prelude to the Top Four Cup
Both teams could meet again in the coming week, in the final for the BBL Cup: Oldenburg will face Lufwigsburg in the semi-finals of the Top Four in their own hall, Alba Berlin will meet FC Bayern in the other semi-final.
