The Skyliners Frankfurt have found a new head coach. The Dutchman Geert Hammink should get the Hessians back on track in the Bundesliga.

The Skyliners Frankfurt have found a new coach. Luca Dalmonte will be succeeded by Dutchman Gert Hammink. A corresponding report in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung coincides with the information of hr-Sport. The 52-year-old is set to sign a two-year contract with the Bundesliga club.

Three-time champion, two-time cup winner

Hammink most recently coached ZZ Leiden, which he led to the championship in the Dutch first division in 2021. The former center does not know the German BBL as a coach, but at least as a player.

From 1997 to 2000 Hammink played for Alba Berlin, with whom he won the German championship three times and the cup once. With Cologne (2002-2004) he also won the German Cup in 2004.

Dalmonte could not prevent relegation

With the Skyliners, Hammink takes over from Dalmonte, which the Hessians only passed on Wednesday. The Italian took over from Frankfurt ten games before the end of last season, but despite some successes he was unable to prevent the Hessians from being relegated. The Skyliners will only play in the basketball upper house again in the coming season thanks to a wildcard.
