Georgian tennis player Nikoloz Basilashvilinumber 25 in the ATP ranking, categorically denies that it has participated in match-fixing and will initiate legal action to defend its interests and reputationhis lawyer Irma Chkuada told Efe this Friday.
According to the German television channel ZDF, which cites an investigation carried out by the International Tennis Federation, Basilashvili could be involved in match-fixing.
Chkuada indicated that the player, the best tennis player in the post-Soviet history of Georgia, has turned to a German law firm to defend his interests.
“The Georgian Tennis Federation (FTG) fully supports Nikoloz Basilashvili and considers all accusations against him baseless rumors.“, the president of the FTG, Alexandr Metreveli, told Efe.
The match that sparked suspicions of alleged fixing was the doubles match that he lost in 2021 in the first round of Wimbledon with the Moldovan Radu Albot against the couple made up of the Hungarian Márton Fucsovics and the Italian Stefano Travaglia, with big bets at stake.
