Game scene - BKT EuroCup 2025, Niners Chemnitz vs London Lions

As of: October 22, 2025 10:39 p.m

The Niners Chemnitz lost a dramatic Eurocup game shortly before the end.

The Niners Chemnitz suffered their third defeat on the fourth matchday of the Eurocup. In the first duel against a British team in the club’s history, the Chemnitz team had to admit defeat to the London Lions 67:68 (34:33).

Chemnitz left the unfortunate Cup exit against Rasta Vechta didn’t notice anything and started the game very well offensively. The Niners attacks ran smoothly and flew precisely to the basket, so that after just three minutes a 10:4 lead was on the scoreboard. However, Rodrigo Pastore’s team subsequently lost this flow and gave up the lead with many errors and an 0:8 run. The precision remained English afterwards, so that the first quarter ended with 16:22.

In the second period, new signing Gavin Schilling celebrated his debut in a Niners jersey and had the hall cheering. The 29-year-old scored his first points straight away and ensured that Chemnitz came within 24:26. The Lions made better use of the many ball losses (ten each) and pulled away again. Shortly before halftime, a 7-0 run, including a three-pointer from Ty Brewer, gave the Niners a 34:33 halftime lead.

Bad start to the second round

As good as the last quarter ended, things continued to go bad after the break. Due to numerous fouls and the lack of hits at the front, there was a 3:13 run in the first five minutes that gave the Lions a double-digit lead (36:46). Chemnitz stuck with it and scored three times through Robbie Beran to make it 45:50. With two more layups and the score was 47:54, the Niners went into the final quarter with a seven-point lead.

The gap initially remained the same, but with three minutes on the clock the Niners finally managed to set the 3,499 spectators in the hall on fire with a three-pointer to make it 61:62. After Lion Joel Scott unfortunately missed the basket while throwing, the Niners immediately countered and took the lead back with a score of 63:62.

It was a heart-stopping finale that was hard to beat in terms of drama. With the score at 67:66, Pastore’s team finally had the ball with 30 seconds on the clock, but Davis Jr. committed a foul. The referees gave the Lions two free throws after an offensive foul. Deane Williams converted both and ultimately gave the Niners a very unfortunate 67:68 defeat.
