After 18 innings and nearly seven hours on the field, the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 6-5 in the second-longest World Series match in history and took the lead in the Major League Baseball (MLB) finals for the first time. The victory in the marathon match gave the defending champion a 2-1 win in the best-of-seven series.

After two games in Canada, the series continued on Monday (local time) in California – and how: after seven innings it was 5:5, then no team managed to score at Dodger Stadium for a long time. First baseman Freddie Freeman made the decision shortly before midnight after 6:39 hours with a home run.

The longest World Series game also took place at Dodger Stadium in 2018, and it was also the third duel then: LA beat the Boston Red Sox 3-2 after 18 innings and 7:20 hours.

The game continues on Wednesday night (1 a.m. CET) with the second duel in Los Angeles. Toronto surprisingly won the opening game of the MLB final (11:4), after which the favored Dodgers managed to equalize (5:1).

The last time Toronto reached the final was when they won the title in 1992 and 1993. LA could become the first team in a quarter century to win two consecutive World Series.
