Bas Wemmenhove is the new director of Seal Center Pieterburen. Wemmenhove supports director-administrator Niek Kuizenga, who is busy with the realization of the Wadden Sea World Heritage Center.

Wemmenhove: “I consider it an enormous honor to take on the day-to-day management of the Seal Center in Pieterburen, and later in Lauwersoog. From a young age I have had an enormous affinity with nature.”

Relocation

Seal Center Pieterburen was founded in 1971. In 2025, a move to Lauwersoog is planned. It will be a place to learn about, work on and contribute to sustainability, climate change and biodiversity. The icon becomes the seal.
