Bas Smit is fiercely criticized by Jordi Versteegden, De Telegraaf’s most important showbiz reporter. He calls the influencer to a sense of reality. “I can not stand it.”

How angry he is with the media: Bas Smit. Last Saturday, the perennial influencer and his team stunned the visitors of the De Amsterdamse Zomer concert they organized by suddenly shutting things down. André Hazes jr. was cut off in the middle of his song, the sound went out and everyone suddenly had to leave.

Pissed Bass

If you close a major event in such an amateurish way, you can bet the press will pick it up, especially after last year’s debacle when everything went wrong in terms of organisation. It was also up for grabs, because on the Insta page of Bas and his sweetheart Nicolette van Dam it rained negative reactions.

The coverage of media such as RTL Boulevard and Shownieuws causes Bas intense irritation. The influencer calls the failed end of his concert a ‘futility’ – that says enough about the ambition level of the organization – and he says he only wants to receive positive reactions. That is why he is also going to start a good news channel.

‘It is logical’

Private star journalist Jan Uriot does not think it is right that Bas is so angry. “Bas Smit wants us to only bring positive news, but everything is of course under a magnifying glass after last year. Then it is of course logical that people are now going to look at it a bit critically,” he says in the podcast Strictly Private.

As a media personality, you shouldn’t want to silence the press, says Jan. “Then you think: well, okay, something can be said about that, right? But they don’t like that.”

‘I can not stand it’

Jordi Versteegden, De Telegraaf’s main showbiz reporter, is annoyed by Bas’s behaviour. “You know what I can’t stand? That Bas Smit pretends all day long that life is only positive. Everything he posts on Instagram… He is actually already a kind of good news channel.”

And life is not all good news, explains Jordi. Anyone who says so is, according to him, just fake. “There is only laughter there, while… I’m sure: in his life sometimes something goes wrong and he hardly shares that. Then I think: yes, are you realistic? I wonder that.”

‘That is how it works’

Bas shouldn’t whine like that, says Jordi, who has already gotten Bas irritated in front of the camera. “We wish them the success, I mean: I have heard positive reactions, including about Tino Martin’s performance this weekend. That seemed really crazy, no false note added.”

The star reporter concludes: “There are also positive things, but what is news … News is something that deviates from the norm, so yes: that with André Hazes deviated from the norm, that did not go very well, that performance was cut short. Yes, that is news. That’s just how it works!”

spot on.
