The fierce criticism of the allegedly filthy food in the brasserie of his wife Nicolette van Dam has not gone unnoticed by her husband Bas Smit. The 40-year-old influencer gives a reaction for the first time.
Tamar Bot and Fanny van de Reijt, who work as editors for the TV program Media Inside, have reviewed the brasserie of Nicolette van Dam and her brother for their podcast De Mediameiden. They were very critical. “Gadverdamme!”, it sounded for example. And: “I thought it was very dirty and didn’t need those fries anymore!”

Bas, Nicolette’s husband, has now left a comment with the two. “We have honestly reported on how our lunch there was. We have done our journalistic duty, so we have also made some critical comments,” explains Tamar. “Bas Smit started following us on Instagram and sent us a message.”
Both Bas and Nicolette indicate their favorite dishes on the menu of Brasserie Van Dam. One of the dishes the podcast ladies ordered was the salmon tartare, a ‘favourite’ of Nicolette. “What is really nice is that Bas reacted very sporty. He sent a message saying: ‘Next time you should order Bás favourites.’”

Bas’s reaction is very sporty, says Tamar. “I really like that he… He sent a lot of winks, he sent things back right away.”
Fanny: “You had very loose contact right away, didn’t you?”
Tamar: “Yeah and he wasn’t hurt. You can think of him what you want, but he does have self-mockery and the last message we exchanged is that he said: ‘See you at the Boekenbal, go drive me crazy!’”
Smart
The way Bas reacts is of course very smart. By responding sportively to criticism, he takes the sting out and cultivates sympathy with his critics. He reacted exactly the same when the ladies of the podcast The Shitshow severely criticized him a few months ago.
Columnist Stéphanie Hoogenberk gave Bas a considerable scolding at the time because of the emptiness he displays on Instagram day in day out. “It’s really like a toddler,” she sneered.

Even then Bas reacted very sporty behind the scenes (see below). “I think such a reaction is funny”, remarked RTL Nieuws director Renske Holwerda. Stephanie: “Smart.”
