“We want to form a federal government immediately. That will be a ‘business cabinet’, so a very small government that can deal with the budget and with urgent socio-economic reforms,” says De Wever on the microphone of VTM NIEUWS.
De Wever is not happy to run for office as Prime Minister, he said during his New Year’s speech in the Nekkerhal in Mechelen. “I will draw the parliamentary list. That is not a choice of my heart, because my heart beats in Flanders,” he says. “But it is a signal. A signal about what our objective is: never again Vivaldi.”
The party chairman also brought all N-VA party leaders to the stage. The central message of the speech was a call to his militants to give everything during the election campaign. “With your efforts we can once again cross the finish line first. With your efforts, the N-VA can remain the largest party in Flanders. We must do everything we can, because Flanders needs a strong N-VA.”
It is not the first time that Bart De Wever has spoken about his ambition to be prime minister. “If I were given the opportunity after June to become prime minister with the power to reform the country, I would really do that. Honestly: it will be very difficult,” he said in an extensive interview with ‘Het Laatste Nieuws’.
