There is hammering and welding on the Tempelhofer Feld – and for a sporting purpose! A so-called miniramp* is being built there, which is a small version of a halfpipe for skating.
The special thing about it: it can also be used by wheelchair skaters and is the first barrier-free mini ramp in Berlin.
David Lichtenhauer (33) is one of the initiators and has been skateboarding for 20 years.
He spends every free minute on the construction site, and he also designed the half-pipe complex with the two small ramps himself. “The idea came to us in spring 2020. At that time, Tempelhofer Feld was one of the few places where people could meet.”
The skater crew wants it to stay that way in the future! With the help of the first Berlin skateboard club, construction work began on April 27th.
The construction costs a total of almost 26,000 euros – the prices for wood and covering panels have risen extremely. However, the team has no labor costs. Almost 30 volunteers lend a hand almost every day.
The ramp is scheduled to open in early June. The club still needs 3000 euros to finish the project.
