Sunday was a soaking party for four-legged friends at the Stappegoor swimming pool in Tilburg, where the summer season ended with the dog splash. Three hundred dogs and their owners dived into the outdoor pool. Look at the pictures.

When the swimming season is over, the dogs are allowed one more time inside. “This is already the fourth time that we have held this dog splash”, says Linda van Iersel, team leader at the Stappegoor swimming pool. “The interest is great every time, three hundred dogs come for a swim in two days. And it was sold out in no time.”

The weather forecast was not too good this weekend, with a lot of rain showers, but Stappegoor didn’t worry about that. “In a pool you get wet anyway, so it just goes on,” says Linda.

Some dogs couldn’t get enough of the water and loved it all, others needed a little encouragement from their owners, or even literally pulled into the water. Some even wore a life jacket.

The owners of Bruno, an oversized specimen, even came to the swimming pool from Belgium. “It’s not that far, you’ll be across the border in no time,” says the owner. “It’s really nice to see them splashing and playing, it’s all very friendly.

In addition to the dog splash, there was a trail, plus several stalls selling merchandise. Dog Campus and the Animal Ambulance were also there to keep an eye on things.
