Barely one family in ten is a customer of the cheapest energy suppliers: you can save up to 360 euros a year on electricity and up to 540 euros on gas | Money

The energy watchdog examined the composition of the product portfolios of the various energy suppliers at the end of March and the savings potential for households. In the meantime, the price of natural gas contracts rose to an all-time high in July and the price for electricity is also significantly higher this month than in March.

The savings potential appears to be considerable. Not surprising: the figures show that barely one family in ten in Flanders is a customer of the cheapest suppliers. In concrete terms, the ten most expensive electricity products represent 27 percent of the market, good for 658,000 households, while the ten cheapest products only account for 12 percent of the total market or 287,000 households.

For natural gas, the ten most expensive products in Flanders represent 30 percent (523,000 households) of the entire market, while the ten cheapest represent 9 percent (157,000 households). The figures for Wallonia and Brussels are more or less similar.

According to the regulator, this means that on the basis of all contracts, the annual savings potential in Flanders for about 480,000 households rises from 100 to 360 euros for electricity. For natural gas, the annual savings potential for about 570,000 households is between 125 and 540 euros.
