Barely 11% subsidies for West Flemish tourism

15 million euros in subsidies for West Flemish tourist projects. It seems like a lot, but the total subsidy pot is almost 130 million, so West Flanders is barely endowed. That is remarkable, because West Flanders has coastal tourism, international tourism in Bruges as an art city and peace tourism in the Westhoek.

Big difference between the provinces

Flemish Member of Parliament Loes Vandromme (CD&V) studied the figures and brought the inequality to light. “The total pot is significant. If we look further at other provinces that receive the resources, we see that the province of Antwerp receives 52% of it. That is remarkable. In West Flanders we have the coast, the countryside, we can cycle and enjoy. Resources have been provided, but I do wonder why the difference between the provinces is so great”, Vandromme points out.
