Barcelona City Council announced this Friday that it will start next September the reform of the Santander street bridge, with the aim that citizens can cross it on foot and by bicycle and in order to improve the connection between the neighborhoods of Verneda i la Pau and Bon Pastor. The government commission has approved the project, which will now enter the bidding phase. The municipal plenary unanimously approved this measure, in response to a citizen initiative, in December 2019.
The new bridge will have sidewalks up to 4.5 meters wide – in the narrowest part it will be 3.3 meters – and a bike lane in each direction, a new pedestrian crossing and a traffic lane in each direction. 50 trees will be planted in the space. The works have a budget of 9.9 million euros and The forecast is that they will be finished in 17 months, that is, approximately in February 2024.
