After many months of controversy and misunderstandings, an agreement has finally been reached that will allow the shops in Barcelona located in central or tourist areas open them Sundays and holidays between May 15 and September 15. The Fundació Barcelona Comerç, Barcelona Oberta, PIMEC Comerç, Foment del Treball, the National Association of Large Distribution Companies (ANGED) and the UGT will sign an agreement next Monday to extend the delimitation and the commercial opening days of the High Influx Zone Tourism (ZGAT) in the city, with the support of the municipal government.
As reported by the city council in a statement, it will be established that establishments located in zones 1 and 2 of the Special Urban Plan for Tourist Accommodation (PEUAT) can open on holidays from 12:00 to 8:00 p.m., in the aforementioned period and until December 31, 2025when a new regulation should be approved.
The municipal government of BComú-PSC will put this agreement to a vote –which coincides with the proposal presented two months ago by the JxCat municipal group– at the municipal plenary session next February 25 to raise it to Directorate of Commerce of the Generalitatwhich is the competent body to regulate this matter and was going to extend the agreement in force until now, if there had not been an in extremis consensus.
The CC.OO. union, whose bodies have yet to make a decision, remains to be incorporated into the pact.
Until now, the municipality had only five agreed special Sundays, beyond those established by the Government. Last May it was announced with great fanfare that this offer would be extended, although without taking the unions into account, which led the government team to back down and opt for an extension, which ultimately will not be necessary.
