Barcelona has deployed a great device to host the official start of La Vuelta this weekend.
Everything is ready for the first stage, a team time trial that will run through the center of Barcelona. On Sunday 27, the second stage will start from Mataró and will end at the gates of the Olympic Stadium Lluís Companys. Everything is ready for Barcelona to live this great sporting event that will make the city the focus of international cycling news for several days.
Since 1962 the capital has not been the starting point for the most important cycling competition in Spain and, this time, in addition to the first day, the city will also add the arrival of the second stage after the mythical ascent to Montjuïc. David EscudeCouncilor for Sports, assures that “It will be a spectacular start to the competition with our city as a backdrop and going through some of the most emblematic places in the capital”.
TEAM TIME TRIAL
Tomorrow afternoon the teams will present themselves in a great event that will take place in Plaça del Mar, in front of the Center Esportiu Municipal Sant Sebastià. The highlight will be on Saturday 26 with the first stage, which will begin at 7:00 p.m. on the Somorrostro beach and end at 9:00 p.m. on Avenida de la Reina Maria Cristina.
These 14 kilometers of team time trial ‘that will cover a good part of the city’ will give the public the opportunity to see a fast and technical circuit where small differences will surely already be marked between the teams aspiring to lead the general classification. Quite a show for cycling lovers.
MONTJUÏC, END OF THE SECOND STAGE
The cycling spectacle will not end with the time trial. The following day, Sunday August 27, the second stage will begin in the morning in Mataró and will end in Barcelona. The cyclists will enter Barcelona through the Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes and the stage will end with the emblematic climb to Montjuïc with the final goal at the gates of the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys (arrival expected around 4:30 p.m.).
MOBILITY
Throughout the weekend the city will be immersed in this sporting event and, therefore, some impacts on mobility are expected. In this sense, it is recommended to plan your journeys ahead of time and check at mobilitat.barcelona/lavuelta for traffic changes and traffic effects that will take place.
