The mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colauhas assured in the municipal plenary session this Friday that the City Council has transferred its “interest” to the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Spain to host the Goya gala in 2024 or the next edition.
The mayor has accepted the plea on this issue presented by the municipal group of Cs and has ensured that Barcelona is “fully available” to do so, at a time when he has highlighted that Barcelona, Catalan and Spanish cinema are experiencing a second youth, he said.

“There is a very powerful new generation and here we have a lot of talent linked to the world of movies. In addition, now with new directors who are standing out in all festivals worldwide. Therefore, we also believe that it would be very pertinent for this specifically Barcelona talent to be recognized and for these awards to be held in our city”, he added.
Although most of the Goya galas have been held in Madrid, the last 2022 edition of these awards was held at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia. The penultimate, that of 2021, was at the Soho CaixaBank Theater in Malaga.
