The Frenchman ends in 2024, but the club will take it easy given the happiness of the footballer

The idea is to extend the contract for another year so that the tension of the past is not repeated

Ousmane Dembélé ended up renewing against all odds last summer, but he only did it for two years and with a very low termination clause. The club and the player’s environment have taken a breather after the tensions experienced and the subject will not be discussed until the end of the season when the objectives have been met. Dembélé is happy in Barcelona and they will try to find a formula that gives everyone peace of mind.

Barça’s idea is to continue with Dembélé for many years. They consider that he is a differential footballer and Xavi Hernández is clear that it is one of the pillars of his project. The Blaugrana club now maintains a much more fluid relationship with his environment and the player has gained weight in the dressing room, taking a step forward. He is happy because at Barça he has recovered his physical tone and that has made him indispensable with France in the World Cup, something that was one of his great illusions.

Both Barça and the player do not want to repeat episodes of the past and, therefore, they hope not to reach the last year of their contract without defining their future. The option that the club can propose to him, for reasons of salary limit, is to extend the contract for another year, until 2025, to delay the player’s final decision. This would give Dembélé confidence and would allow Barça not to have to place him on the market next summer.

And it is that if Dembélé does not renew, Barça could be forced, again, to try to sell him. This is the unwanted option but it is not ruled out either due to the club’s need to generate more income. Ousmane wants to continue and Barça wants to keep him on the squad, so they will start talking in the spring.
