The financially ailing Spanish first division football club FC Barcelona has slimmed down its squad just before the end of the transfer period and parted ways with Martin Braithwaite. As announced by Barca, the club has agreed with the Danish striker to terminate the contract, which runs until 2024, in return for a severance payment.
According to Spanish media reports, Braithwaite will receive 150,000 euros farewell money. At Barcelona, this frees up around seven million euros in salary costs.
Spicy: On Thursday evening, the 31-year-old signed a contract until 2025 with city rivals Espanyol. Barca signed Braithwaite from CD Leganes for €18m in January 2020 as an “emergency purchase” due to injury concerns.
