Barca boss storms the referee’s cabin after the Clásico bankruptcy

The 3-1 defeat in the Clásico against Real Madrid caused a lot of frustration for Barca boss Joan Laporta. After the final whistle, the President of FC Barcelona stormed into the dressing room of the referees and took them to task for their decisions.

FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has caused an uproar following the Catalans’ 3-1 El Clasico defeat by Real Madrid. The 60-year-old stormed into the catacombs after the final whistle and gained access to the referee’s cabin. Chief referee José Sánchez Martínez then recorded the events in his match sheet.

“After the game, Joan Laporta broke into the referee’s dressing room and repeatedly asked for explanations for decisions made during the game,” wrote Martínez. The President of the Catalans was then asked to leave the cabin again. He complied with this request without further incident, according to the referee’s report.

It is not known which decisions made Laporta angry. However, the Catalan newspaper “Sport” speculates that the president’s anger could have something to do with an unpunished foul by Dani Carvajal on Robert Lewandowski. Since the scene in question took place in the Royal penalty area, a referee’s whistle would have resulted in a penalty for FC Barcelona.

The “Mundo Deportivo” meanwhile claims to have learned from an unnamed source that Laporta’s outburst of anger was based precisely on the said scene. The president, the newspaper writes, wanted an answer from the referee as to why he hadn’t watched this scene again on the screen. Martinez then replied that the scene was clear and not worth checking again.
