Hardly a day goes by without a new transfer rumor about Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund. Now Joan Laporta, President of FC Barcelona, has spoken meaningfully about poker for the BVB shooting star.
Real Madrid? Manchester City? Or is it FC Barcelona? There is still no more precise information about where Erling Haaland will play in the coming season. The only thing that seems clear is that BVB’s top attacker will probably not fulfill his contract with the Bundesliga club, which actually runs until 2024.
But which club pays the exit clause of 75 to 90 million euros that is necessary to free Haaland from Dortmund in the middle of the year. And: Who can even afford Haaland as a complete package consisting of said transfer fee as well as salary and bonus payments? Behind FC Barcelona you can obviously put a big question mark on this question. At least that’s what Barca boss Laporta says.
The president of the recently immensely strengthened LaLiga club emphasized to “Mundo Deportivo” that he “won’t talk about individual players”, but then indirectly went into more detail about the rumors about Haaland.
BVB: Would Haaland fit Barca’s salary level?
“We will not make any transfers that endanger the club,” emphasized Laporta, whose club is in a debt hole of well over a billion euros.
New arrivals “have to adapt to the salary levels at Barca,” Laporta continued, “to ensure the club’s sustainability.”
It is therefore questionable whether FC Barcelona would be willing to put the club even further in economic difficulties for Haaland.
Appropriately, the English “Sun” recently reported that a Haaland transfer could be an expensive pleasure. Because the Norwegian is said to have recently rejected an offer from Manchester City that would have brought him a salary of 31 million euros a year.
