Banksy left numerous works of art on the rubble of Ukraine. A gray, destroyed house wall in Borodjanka near Kyiv, for example, now has graffiti showing a girl doing a handstand. The building in question is said to have been hit by a Russian bomb. That picture is now too on the Instagram channel by the hitherto anonymous street artist – posting there is traditionally seen as official confirmation from Banksy.
Putin on the ground
As the British news agency PA announced, citing Banksy’s PR agency, other works of art in Kyiv, as well as the heavily bombed suburbs of Borodjanka and Irpin, also come from his hands. For example, Banksy immortalized himself on another wall in Borodyanka, of which hardly anything remains. The graffiti there shows how a child throws a grown man to the ground in judo – the loser is likely to mean Russian President Vladimir Putin. He is an avid judoka. That image was shared by the Ukrainian Defense Ministry on twitter and commented on it by saying: “We are stronger than David. You are weaker than Goliath.”
Banksy has added a military vehicle to what is probably already an existing penis on a facade. The three soldiers on the truck bed seem to be shooting at the genitals – perhaps there is also a message from the anonymous artist in this.
Another artwork by Banksy shows a person with a gas mask over their head. Your weapon is a fire extinguisher.
In the Kiev suburb of Irpin, a gymnast with a ribbon in her hand dances over a hole in a wall.
Banksy, the book with the seven seals
Banksy has been artistically active in crisis areas in the past. So he opened “The Walled Off Hotel” in Bethlehem – right next to the border wall between Israel and the West Bank. He is also committed to helping refugees and has financed, among other things, a ship for rescue operations in the Mediterranean. Many of his works are of a socially critical nature. To this day, he keeps his real name and true identity secret.
