The curtain also seems to fall for Big Bazar in Delfzijl. The lessor of this establishment has filed for bankruptcy.
Pledge owner Barendrecht & Van Nie from Emmen has handed over the payment arrears of 24,953.35 euros to a collection company and has joined the bankruptcy petition for the entire company.
On August 8, Big Bazar made a payment arrangement with the owner, agreeing to pay the rent arrears for the store at De Wending in Delfzijl. The property owner then withdrew the summary proceedings she had brought against the branch. But no payment has been made. Barendrecht & Van Nie do not want to comment.
The chain of discount stores, owned for two years by entrepreneur Heerke Kooistra from Damwoude in Friesland, has been in dire straits for some time now. In many more locations the rent is not paid.
For tons of debt
At a court case about the eviction of buildings in Assen and Coevorden, no delegation from the company showed up on Tuesday. These owners also went to court because of rent arrears.
Several creditors have already filed for bankruptcy of the retail chain. This case will be heard at the end of this month. The company probably has many tons of debt outstanding in total.
In Leeuwarden, the Big Bazar in shopping park De Centrale had to be evacuated by order of the court.
The price fighter was founded in 2007 by Blokker’s parent company and sold to Kooistra two years ago. Big Bazar sells all kinds of non-food items at low prices and competes with the Action, among others. The Netherlands has a total of 125 branches with 1600 employees.
