Bankrupt home care agency, problem for Trees (90): ‘This is not possible, is it?’

Ninety years old is Trees, the mother of Lies Damen. She still lives independently, in Esbeek. But since Friday afternoon she has had a big problem, since the Kaatsheuvel care provider CCC Thuis in Zorg has gone bankrupt. Since an hour on Friday afternoon, the care provided by this organization has come to a standstill. The consequence? An acute problem for the eighty clients. “This is not possible in the Netherlands, is it?”

“At first you think after this message: oh no, right! What now?”, says Lies, Trees’ daughter. “The first thing you want to do is contact the relevant authority. If that doesn’t work, you become a bit distraught. Then you immediately think of all those other people who no longer have help. People who are bedridden , severely handicapped… Then you think: this can’t be true in the Netherlands, can it?!”

“Living independently is going very well, partly because of the care she had.”

Her mother needs daily help to continue living independently. She needs help twice a day, morning and evening. “With medicines and skin care. She has had shingles, so a lot of pain. And she has even more complaints.” Nevertheless, according to Lies, living independently still went ‘very well’. “Partly because of the care she had.”

After the message from CCC Thuis in Zorg, Lies went looking for a solution herself. But that quest has so far been unsuccessful. “Fortunately, I was able to speak to someone from health insurer CZ, who promised us that they would do everything possible to find a solution. As soon as possible.”

“There are also people who have no children at all.”

“Look, at least my mother still has children,” continues Elisabeth. “So we’re all trying for it our mother to care. But there are also people who have no children or good neighbors or whatever. Then no one will stand up for them. I’m very sorry. Then you can’t!”
