Bankrupt handyman company defrauds customers of half a million euros

Handyman Dak en Kozijn in Hilvarenbeek only existed for sixteen months, but during that time it has duped its customers of half a million. Radar examined the practices of owners Michael and Thomas. According to the TV program, the two left a trail of debts, tinkering and unfinished assignments.

The company started in May last year, and according to the consumer program Radar they managed to secure dozens of orders in no time. Sixteen months later, Dak en Kozijn is bankrupt again. Tons have been paid in advance, but hardly any deliveries were made. Many people can whistle for their dormer window or new window frames.

Leaks in roof and window frames
Erica and Ger bought a house in Sint Willebrord with the idea of turning it into their dream home. They wanted to invest heavily and asked Dak en Kozijn for a new tiled roof, plastic window frames, a conservatory at the back of the house and roller shutters. The couple paid almost 38,000 euros to the handyman company.

It turned out to be a major fiasco. “We didn’t get a conservatory, no shutters and the window frames downstairs weren’t installed either,” says Erica. “They replaced the window frames upstairs, but it was done so poorly that we subsequently had leaks. The roof was also leaking and was rejected by the inspection.”

The judge ultimately ruled that Dak en Kozijn must repay almost 20,000 euros. But Erica and Ger did not see a cent in return. They are still waiting for their money.

Excuses
And there are many more disaster stories. Many customers receive nothing at all in return for the down payment. They are told all kinds of reasons why the work is delayed. For example, Michael’s mother may have died, Thomas has a burnout, the bus is broken or someone has corona. The handymen are repeatedly waited for, but no one shows up.

Last summer the company filed for bankruptcy. Sixty customers have been affected. Half a million has disappeared. And the big question Radar asks is: where did the money that was paid go?
