‘Bank employee’ caught emptying the debit card of a woman (78) in PC Hooftstraat

A happy accident for a 78-year-old Amstelveen who became the victim of a debit card fraud. The man betrayed himself when he went shopping for the second time in the PC Hooftstraat.

The thief poses as a bank employee on Monday, October 24. He scares the woman by telling her by phone about a ‘suspicious transaction’ from her account. He calls her several times that day and persuades her to give all her personal details. In the evening someone is at the door to collect her bank cards.

After the Amstelveen has issued her debit cards, she still doubts the sincerity of the ‘bank employee’ and calls the police. They find out that thousands of euros of her money has been used to buy things in the expensive PC Hooftstraat in Amsterdam.

The thief’s greed ends up costing him dearly. When the man makes another round through the PC Hooftstraat a few days later, he is recognized by a store employee. He knew what the man had on his tally after the police had stopped by for a neighborhood investigation.

Money Back?

The man is arrested in the store and goods are seized during a search of two homes. Police do not rule out more arrests. It is not yet clear whether the woman will get her money back.
