A bit of a shock when I want to visit the Bangkok Bites. The rooms on Schönhauser Allee are deserted, only a few pieces of furniture are left standing around. But the trendy Thai didn’t fall victim to the Corona crisis (or other adversities) – he just moved.
Reason: At the previous location, there was far too little space for a terrace – the footpath wasn’t particularly wide, a bike path led almost directly past the tables and the busy main street didn’t exactly invite you to linger.
Bangkok Bites has been residing directly across from the water tower for a few months. The furnishings are more dignified and classic, probably mostly taken over from the previous operator. The staff is very friendly and extremely attentive.
When we complain about a starter, it is taken off the bill without any discussion. The grilled pork belly with Nam Yim sauce (7.90 euros) is solid, but could be much juicier for my taste.
Pad Taleh Nam Prik Pao is a seafood stew (a whopping 22.90 euros). What’s Inside: Seafood stir-fry with chili paste and Thai basil. “Very spicy” is a warning on the menu. Don’t worry – you won’t immediately spit fire afterwards…
