Behind the a teenage Alice’s coming-of-age storyin search of the truth about a father he never knew, is the hand of Andrea Di Stefano and the director and artistic supervisor Michele Alhaique. That they managed to mix, with a skilful balance, ‘ndrangheta and George Michael’s songs, corrupt politics and sitcom air style Keaton House. A blast.

Bang Bang Baby: the first two episodes

We are in 1986 in the province of Milan. Alice (Arianna Becheroni) is a teenager who leads a normal life, despite having suffered the loss of her criminal father (Adriano Giannini) at an early age. He lives with the mother Gabriella (Lucia Mascino), convinced feminist who works in the factory, and feeds on commercial television that invaded the families of those years and sweets like there is no tomorrow (the Smarties are his favorites).

It seems that his life must follow a straight line, without jolts, and instead one day we find in the newspaper an article that is about a man arrested for indecent charges in a public place. That face reminds him of someone: her father, who she was convinced had been dead for ten yearsis alive and well.

From that moment begins its change and I walk towards the father Holy Mary and his family of Calabrian mafia. Alice has flashbacksshe begins to remember the lullaby that grandmother sang to her Lina (Dora Romano), now a ruthless woman who aims to lead the Saint. But she needs the support of a politic which at the moment has disappeared. The niece will be involved in a shady deal bigger than her.

A series that mixes the mafia, black humor and the 80s

Bang Bang Baby surprising as it brings back in the context of the years Eighty, animated by pop songs, by commercials for Big Bubble and from the posters of the Charlie’s Angels. A colorful world opposed by the affairs of a family of ‘ndrangheta, ready to do anything to manage the airport of Malpensa.

Leading the family is Linathe old woman of the group, the one who has in mind the goal to reach and, nothing and nobody, will be able to prevent him, not even Alice’s return after ten years. The daughter of Santo Maria feels a kind of admiration for her grandmotheris attracted to that world so far away from her and that her mother Gabrielle has prevented her from knowing until then.

Alice’s surreal journey guided by unconditional love

The events of Bang Bang Baby follow each other through the eyes of the young protagonistcompletely imbued with pop culture: his emotions, his actions are pervaded by that era which inevitably feeds the narrative style of the series.

Michele Alhaique alternates the tones drawing inspiration above all from the films of brothers Coen: takes us to one sitcom inhabited by surreal charactersin a context underworld made of blood and murder, factory workers and feminist protests. And in Alice’s universe made up of dreams, almost dreamlike journeysof childhood memories and above all enriched of unconditional love for a father who thought he was dead.

As she says: “Love makes us do great bullshit, against all logic and against ourselves “. We will see to what extent love will push Alice to change her life.
