“It’s not enough, it’s not enough!” Ben Bridwell barks in the usual courageous manner in the West Coast-inspired “In Need Of Repair”, which soars hymn-like towards the middle of the album. All sorts of repair work explain the five-year record break, including staff changes. Two men out, two men in – even a friend of mine, a photographer, joined in on the invitation to “Coalinga” as co-author/guitarist.
Purified, concentrated & guitar-fixated
Band Of Horses go to work on tracks like “Warning Signs”, “Crutch” and “Lights” in a more streamlined, concentrated and guitar-fixated way than on “Why Are You OK”. “Tragedy Of The Commons” plays with going half time, only to then pick up the pace again – before the quintet dares to really float in the second half. Nice.
