Band members join forces with producer Mitch Easter after more than 30 years

REM’s Peter Buck and Mike Mills are in the studio with producer Mitch Easter for the first time in more than 30 years, according to a Twitter post.

Buck and Mills joined forces with Scott McCaughey, Linda Pitmon and Steve Wynn at Fidelitorium Recording Studio in Kernersville, North Carolina. The musicians are working together on a new album by The Baseball Project. She is supported by the producer Mitch Easter, as can be seen from the post.

Easter on meeting the band for the first time

From 1981 Easter produced the single “Radio Free Europe”, the debut EP “Chronic Town” and the debut album “Murmur” by REM as well as the follow-up “Reckoning”. In addition, Easter has contributed to the anniversary re-releases of these REM projects in recent years.

“They weren’t what I expected at all,” Easter said in 2021 about his first impressions of REM more than 40 years ago. “They had a lot more references to older music than I expected. They came to my place the night before the session, stayed at my place and we played records. I remember thinking, ‘This is great’ because I’d never met these guys before, but I felt comfortable right away and we had a good time.”
