Balthazar wins Best Alternative, Camille goes home empty-handed

Eleven nominations in just about every possible category: Balthazar, Camille, Brihang and Compact Disk Dummies were hopeful. Yet only the first one could win an award: that of Best Alternative. The group also previously received the sector award for ‘Best Live Act’. Camille, who was nominated for ‘Breakthrough’ and ‘Solo Woman’, went home empty-handed.

It was Angèle and Metejoor, on the other hand, who took home the most prizes. Angèle won in the categories ‘Pop’ and ‘Solo woman’, and with ‘Fever’, her duet with Dua Lipa, also took home the ‘Hit of the year 2021’. Metejoor came out on top in the categories ‘Breakthrough’, ‘Dutch speaking’ and ‘Solo man’.

No Luck for Compact Disk Dummies and Brihang

Compact Disk Dummies, who were nominated for Best Dance, had to let the award go to Regi. Instead of Brihang, who could win the award for Best Dutch-speaking, Metejoor was allowed to take the podium.

Tribute to Arno

During the show, tribute was also paid to Arno, who passed away last week. The viewers saw the resident of Ostend walking on the beach by the sea and heard him talk about how he drew strength from music. With the subtle, but powerful final words: ‘and be good, hey’. What followed was a spontaneous standing ovation from the public and invited guests in Hall 12.
