Former DFB captain Michael Ballack advises the German Football Association to clarify the question of a successor for Oliver Bierhoff before the question of a coach when making a new start in the national team. From his point of view, national coach Hansi Flick should not have too much say in this.
“We are in a phase in which we are rearranging things throughout the DFB, not just in terms of personnel. Alignment is also important and, as a result, the people who are installed who make these decisions about who will also be coaches in the future,” said Ballack on “MagentaTV”: “I don’t think it should be the other way around that a coach has a say in who holds this position now.” Flick is “too short for national coach” for that.
Ballack has clear ideas about the future style of play of the DFB selection, which failed again in the World Cup preliminary round.
“I’m sounding a bit boring now: Discipline, reliability, struggle, dogged determination and the ability to suffer – these are attributes that have distinguished us, that have made us successful,” emphasized the 46-year-old.
