Baldessarini cancels show after bankruptcy

Menswear specialist Baldessarini has canceled its fashion show at the Pitti Uomo fashion fair.

The reason for this is the insolvency proceedings opened by the parent company Ahlers AG at the end of April, which affect six other subsidiaries in addition to Baldessarini, according to Florian Wortmann in a letter to customers and business partners. Baldessarini’s Managing Director asks for your understanding that in the current situation the brand “cannot take part in all formats with the usual frequency” and is therefore not present at the menswear fair in Florence.

Instead, the clothing retailer is working to complete the refurbishment process “soon,” Wortmann said. “We believe in the strong Baldessarini brand, the dedicated team and our partners, because it is precisely this conviction and the joint work that have brought us to this successful presence on the market.”

Since Wortmann’s return to Ahlers at the end of 2020, Baldessarini has repositioned itself in order to also reach a younger target group. There were also a number of personnel changes, such as the appointment of Grischa Gladen as Sales Director National, as well as various pop-up concepts and store openings such as the flagship store on Berlin’s Kurfürstendamm that opened in October.

Ahlers is insolvent

The Herford-based clothing group Ahlers AG has filed for bankruptcy due to the consequences of the pandemic, consumer restraint and inflation. The priority in the process is maintaining ongoing business operations, which should initially continue for the entire group.
