Achieving third place was the goal, but baker Roy Schepers from Sleen has performed above all expectations with the Dutch bakery team. With a surprising second place at the world baking championship in Paris, the Netherlands has achieved a podium place for the first time.
“We are very happy,” says Schepers, who returned to Drenthe yesterday after the award ceremony. “With a group of three boys, what we trained was baked. And that was judged as good by the jury.”
For the Dutch team it is pay after working after months of preparation with baking special croissants and baguettes. “During the game we had the idea that we could win prizes, because it went quite well. But we did not expect that we would have come second.”

Last weekend was completely dominated by the world championship, with busy preparations on Saturday. Schepers: “We had two hours for that. Everything is baked on Sunday.” According to the baker, the decorative piece in particular helped to achieve success and the flavors were good.
