Bakkenist Ilse de Haas from Assen will be one of the new ambassadors of the Youth Fund Sport & Cultuur Drenthe. She will fill this position with FC Emmen player Oussama El Azzouzi and actor Sem Donkers from Coevorden.

The aim of the Youth Fund Sport & Culture is to allow as many children as possible to play sports and make music. Some of the young people cannot do this now, because they come from families that are not well off. These ‘minimum families’ can then count on help from the Youth Fund. For example, the organization pays the contribution or the tuition of the children.

“I was immediately enthusiastic,” says De Haas. Together with her fellow ambassadors, she wants to draw more attention to the mission of the Youth Fund. “There are children whose parents do not have enough money to pay for sports or music lessons, but who should be given the opportunity to do so. I now play sports at a high level, but of course I started playing sports in the past. It is extremely important for the future of a child,” says the baker.

De Haas finished third in the final ranking of the World Championship Sidecar Racing last year. She did this alongside her Finnish driver Pekka Päivärinta. This World Cup season has started a lot less well for the duo after Päivärinta suffered an injury to his upper arm last month. The five-time world champion slipped on ice, tearing several tendons. He expects to return in August.
