“Bailiff was waiting for us”, protest action Delhaize Ostend interrupted

This morning around 6 o’clock the union members wanted to block the entrance to the Delhaize Hazegras in Ostend. The intention was to use shopping carts to prevent customers from entering the store. That action was unsuccessful. A bailiff, summoned by the management of the retail chain, was waiting for the activists this morning.

The bailiff immediately broke up the protest action. The unions are shocked: “It is really unbelievable that the management would rather deal with sending bailiffs than having a one-on-one conversation with us.”

The unions especially want to have an open discussion about the privatization of the shops at this time. For them, privatization is not the only option, if it does come to that, the unions want to obtain guarantees for the employees. To date, however, the management has remained silent.
