Baidu’s chatbot better than ChatGPT?
Baidu’s latest version of its chatbot, Ernie Bot 3.5, beats OpenAI’s competition – ChatGPT and GPT-4, OpenAI’s latest and more advanced model – in key tests as an AI, the Chinese company recently claimed, according to CNBC. During beta testing, Ernie Bot 3.5 scored better overall performance scores than ChatGPT and outperformed GPT-4 in several Chinese language skills, according to Baidu, citing China Science Daily. The state-run newspaper previously conducted a test to evaluate the performance of artificial intelligence models. The test was based on standardized admissions and qualification exams, according to CNBC. Ernie Bot 3.5 outperformed ChatGPT and GPT-4 in Chinese. In English, on the other hand, the bot was behind GPT-4, while also beating ChatGPT. In science and humanities, however, ChatGPT and GPT-4 were ahead.
Baidu is already making sweeping improvements
“Just three months after the beta release of Ernie Bot, Baidu’s large language model (LLM) built on top of Ernie 3.0, Ernie 3.5 has made sweeping improvements in effectiveness, functionality and performance,” quoted CNBC Haifend Wang, Baidu’s CTO. “These improvements are evident in creative writing, question and answer, reasoning and code generation, as well as training performance and inference performance.”
A key feature of its latest model is the ability to access plugins – these are apps that can be accessed through Ernie Bot. These plugins allow Baidu’s AI to work on more specific scenarios, such as summarizing long texts and generating precise responses, explains The Hindu. With the Ernie Bot, Baidu plans to upgrade its own Internet search engine service and integrate the AI software into other products. CEO Robin LI relies on generative AI and large language models that represent a “transformative potential of AI in various industries”, quoted IT-Times from a statement by the CEO.
