Bags stolen from cars, search leads owners to clothing containers

The police found a lot of stolen items in clothing containers in a parking lot in Eindhoven on Wednesday evening. Earlier in the evening, the police received several reports of people whose belongings had been stolen from the car. These cars were in parking garages and had been broken into. Among other things, bags with laptops were taken.

“We came back from a night out for dinner and saw that the car had been broken into. All items were gone, including Macbooks and other Apple items. With the search function of these items we could see where they were,” says Ruud Droeghaag, one of the owners.

They called the police with their findings. He then offered help to find the things. Owners could trace the last known location using Airtags. These are small devices that show where they are using GPS or Bluetooth and an associated app.

Search in container
The search eventually led to a parking space on the Meerkollaan in Eindhoven, near a number of clothing containers. They saw a stolen bag in one of the containers. To get the stuff out, they crawled into the containers and searched everything.

The fire brigade was also involved, they cut open the containers. In the end there were stolen items in three containers.

The most valuable items such as Macbooks and Airpods were no longer in it. The police have taken all the belongings and are contacting people who have reported car burglaries.

Eindhoven garages often targeted
It is not the first time that items have been stolen from cars while they are parked in parking garages. The Eindhoven parking garages seem to have been a haven for car burglars for years. Hundreds of times a year, cars are robbed in just a few seconds. Expensive electronics such as laptops, telephones and cameras are particularly popular with the thieves’ guild.
