Bagnaia on Martin: “He’s fast, but he can improve braking”

Pecco on the eve of Phillip Island: “The victory in Indonesia was fantastic for the comeback and also for the feeling I had. Jorge is a fast rival with a great style in terms of speed when cornering, but when braking…”

Looking forward, taking a step back: Pecco Bagnaia begins the weekend of the Australian MotoGP GP by recalling his splendid victory in Indonesia which brought him back to the top of the World Championship, with an 18 point advantage over Jorge Martin: “It was fantastic: being able to return to winning with a performance like that and from 13th place on the grid it was wonderful – Pecco’s words -. There is also satisfaction for the feeling with the bikethe grip I had and the confidence when braking.”

phillip island and the feeling

The Phillip Island track is very particular, as beautiful and scenic as it is treacherous due to the ever-changing weather, between wind and rain, and it is an aspect that Bagnaia highlights: “The track is beautiful and I like it, but on Sunday the usual Australian climate with strong wind and rain, so it could be difficult and challenging – analyzes Bagnaia -. We’ll see, but it could be more difficult here than in Japan because the conditions at this track are more unpredictable than Motegi. But I’m just focusing on the good feeling I’ve found again and keeping it that way. This is a track where it is difficult to break away from the group and gain an advantage: here pushing too hard is uselessyou have to manage the wear of the front tire, especially in points like turn 4, in order to then be able to push in the final laps.”

stoner and martin

Finally, Bagnaia is asked for his opinion, first up Casey Stoner, then on the strong and weak points of his opponent, Jorge Martin, in this world sprint. “Casey Stoner proved that he was the fastest in all conditions with the Ducati: I remember once that in the wet he entered the track and did three laps and gave everyone a 2″ leadthen stopped for 40 minutes, came back into action and gave the others another 2″. Crazy. Martin? He’s very fast and has a style in which gains a lot in traction and acceleration: I don’t see any weaknesses with a style like this. Perhaps, however, he could improve the braking…”.
