Badminton women win their European Championship ticket – men on course

The German badminton women have booked their ticket for next year’s European Team Championships in Poland.

At the qualifying tournament in Bad Camberg, Germany defeated their only opponent, England, 4-1 and will therefore take part in the European Championship tournament (February 14th to 18th, 2024). The teams from Iceland and Norway had withdrawn from the qualifying tournament, so England was the only hurdle.

“It was a very successful day. A game against England is always a difficult task. You can easily lose,” said Martin Kranitz, sports director at the German Badminton Association (DBV): “A confident performance by our ladies. Congratulations on qualifying for the European Championship finals in Poland.”

The German men are also on track. Even without the injured top player Mark Lamsfuß, they defeated Malta 5-0 and got their next easy win after the 5-0 opening win against Estonia. On Sunday (3 p.m./Sportdeutschland.TV) the ticket will be against Finland. The upcoming opponent also won his two matches convincingly with a record of 9:1.
