Bad Start A Year Of Your Life

John de Mol can cry. His latest TV child A Year Of Your Life, which should be on the channel for no less than a year, started yesterday as a ratings flop on SBS 6.

For weeks and weeks, Shownieuws paid attention to it every day: Een Jaar Van Je Leven, the new daily program of their boss John de Mol. They all loved it at the desk. And would the whole of the Netherlands go and see it? Naturally! Well, not so. In fact, no dog is watching.

231 thousand viewers

The first episode of Een Jaar Van Je Leven, which according to Luuk Ikink is a kind of ‘Golden Cage-like program’, did not get further than a score of 231 thousand viewers yesterday at 6.20 pm. SBS 6 thus took a market share of 9 percent. It could be something, but if it stays at this level, it’s a lost cause.

Tina Nijkamp, the former channel boss of SBS 6, sympathizes with John. “It’s a mediocre start after Sunday’s really nice kick-off. It is also very early (too early?) in the schedule,” she says on her ratings juice channel. “6.30 pm has always been a difficult time for SBS 6, and the fact that it is still light outside doesn’t help either.”

bright spot

Is it all bad news for John then? No, says Tina. “The good news for John is that it scores a neat 9.0 percent in the target group 20 to 54 years, a doubling compared to last week.”

It is important for John that this is a success, she explains. “A Year Of Your Life has to be his big international hit. And he is only launching two programs this month, in addition to this reality series only the unfortunately already flopped Have Ik Wat Van Je Aan.”

Lubach scores

The big prime time winners yesterday were NPO 1’s Kassa (1.2 million and 25 percent), SBS 6’s Chateau Meiland (922 thousand and 19 percent), RTL 4’s Expedition Robinson (864 thousand and 19 percent) and SBS 6’s Today Inside ( 710 thousand and 17 percent).

The start of De Avondshow with Arjen Lubach managed to entertain 981 thousand viewers (27 percent) late in the evening, a formidable start. “Jinek in particular is bothered by Lubach and scores slightly more than half of the Nick & Simon broadcast last week,” says Tina. Her score remains at 585 thousand viewers (18 percent).
