Düsseldorfer EG from the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) will have to do without Phil Varone for the rest of the season.
The center forward suffered a cruciate and medial ligament tear in the defeat at Eisbären Berlin (2:4). The DEG announced this on Wednesday.
“This injury hits us very hard and it’s hard to believe the bad luck with injuries that has been following us for some time. As the center of our recently outstanding front row, we will miss Phil very much in the final spurt of the season,” said sports director Niki Mondt.
It is still unclear whether the Düsseldorf team will sign a replacement for Varone. Despite a disappointing season so far, DEG still has a chance of a place in the pre-play-offs.
