Hockey player who has played in the NHL since 2015 Joel Armia does not fit into the plans of the Montreal Canadiens. The team announced that it will send Finnish forward and Swedish defenseman Gustav Lindström to the waivers list when the new NHL season starts next week.

Other NHL teams have a day to grab Armi for free. Otherwise, the attacker will head to the farm series in the AHL.

Armia’s current $3.4 million annual NHL contract lasts for two more seasons, so the Canadiens save money with their decision. He has represented Montreal for the past five years. Before that, he played in Winnipeg.

Last season was fragmented for Armia again. The player from Pori, who often suffered from minor injuries in his career, played 43 matches in the regular season, collecting 7+7 results from them. Armia has scored 30 points in his most efficient season (season 2019–2020).

Armia has spent the last two springs with the Finnish national team. In 2022, he celebrated the world championship.
