The German volleyball champions Berlin Volleys complained about two long-term injuries to players ten days before the start of the season in the Volleyball Bundesliga.
Libero Satoshi Tsuiki has torn a muscle bundle in his hip and will be out for weeks. Newcomer Jiri Hänninen had it even worse.
The Finn returned from the national team with a serious wrist injury and failed the medical check at the BR Volleys. His contract with the capital club was then terminated by mutual agreement.
The Japanese Tsuiki suffered his injury last weekend during a defensive action in the volleyball game against Belchatow (3-1) at the tournament in Zalasewo, Poland. The severity of the injury only became clear during an examination in Berlin.
At the start of the season, the Volleys will also become a US national player Cody Kessel missed due to a knee injury. New coach Joel Banks’ team will be seriously challenged for the first time this weekend at the three-day Supercup tournament in Hildesheim. She starts there as defending champion.
