The ban on the Islamic tunic in French educational centers is causing school absenteeism. The first day of class, 298 students went to school with their abaya, but 67 of them refused to take it off because they didn’t want to break their beliefs (or get into trouble at home). Although the French government claims to be calm because these girls will have to return to the classrooms in the coming days (schooling is mandatory for all minors); The Minister of Education has announced that this fall he will try to implement the school uniform to try to guarantee a secular education (read: solve the machismo that surrounds Muslim women’s clothing).
