After successfully qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Robert Page, who has been interim coach since the end of 2020, officially took over the Wales national team from Ryan Giggs – the latter had given up his post after allegations of domestic violence became public. The Welsh FA signed the 48-year-old to a new deal just ahead of his UEFA Nations League A head coaching debut against Belgium (September 22) and Poland (September 25).
Page’s new working paper is dated 2026. The 41-time international had led Wales to a World Cup for the first time since 1958 by beating Ukraine 1-0 in the playoff final. In the summer of 2021, he and his team reached the round of 16 at the European Championships. “There is no greater honor than coaching the national team and I cannot wait for the challenges of the next four years, starting with our first World Cup in 64 years. This is an exciting time for Welsh football and I hope we can do the country proud in November and continue our success by qualifying for more major tournaments in the future,” said the manager.
Association President Steve Williams added: “The World Cup is the perfect opportunity to showcase Wales on the world stage and I am convinced that Rob is the best person to fill the role, in Qatar and beyond.”
