Baby died at childminder in Eernegem: “She is very touched”

It is an eight month old boy. Little is known about the exact circumstances of the death, but the investigation is ongoing. The prosecutor’s office requested an inquest into an unknown person for accidental killing. Everything points in the direction of a tragic accident.

Mayor Lieven Cobbaert (Open VLD) expresses his deepest condolences to the victim’s family and parents. At the same time, he calls for the serenity to be preserved.

Never had any problems

The childminder has been affiliated with childcare group Ferm for fourteen years. “In all those years there have never been any problems,” Ferm said. “She is very touched.”

In the meantime, Ferm is looking for other locations to provide shelter for the other children. That is difficult, as there are very few places available. That issue was raised earlier this week.
